Day of Photonics in Warsaw University of Technology

On 17th of March 2016, as part of the Light2015 Conference the Day of Photonics was held the in Warsaw University of Technology - an event dedicated to promotion of photonics among young people. Polish Technology Platform on Photonics and its Consortium Members were present during the event.

Conference was organized by Photonics Society of Poland, Warsaw University of Technology and Polish Technology Platform on Photonics and took place in the auditorium of Faculty of Physics on Warsaw University of Technology, Koszykowa 75 Str. Warsaw. During the first part of the event, as part of the PPTF section, members of the PPTF presented their achievements and their promotional materials. Representative of PCO S.A., the Coordinator Company of the PPTF lectured about photonics impact on different aspects of our lives. On the same day a Career Day was organized during which students could find out more about internships in companies participated in Polish Technology Platform on Photonics and also workshop dedicated to H2020 funding opportunities for innovative photonic projects. http://www.pptf.pl/dokumenty_/H2020_Photonics_17.03.2016_Warsaw_Szoluc.pdf

  

LIGHT2015 is a European project funded through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme of the European Commission. It aims to promote the importance of photonics among young people, entrepreneurs and the general public in all Member States of the EU during the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 (IYL 2015).

 

Photonics is an interdisciplinary field of science and technology combining the achievements of optics, electronics and computer science and dealing with the technologies, components and systems utilizing electromagnetic radiation, ranging from gamma, UV and VIS rays to the far infrared and THz wave frequencies. Photonics is essential to the development of modern economy and the proper functioning of the socially important sectors, such as: science, education, communication, safety and medicine and it is seen as one of the most innovative field of economy in Europe.
